Laying back to SONYHDSR Deck
Does anyone layback from pro tools to a a Sony HDSR Deck. Using AES? Im just curious becasue the SYNC I/O doesn't support Tri Sync. So how do I get PT to lock to the Deck.
So do I just set PT to chase the Deck at 23.98 and hope it stays in sync? these shows are 1 hour long. I would love to be able to to strip these myself from the studio. Its nerve wracking to leave my restripe up to a online video editor, they barely even listen to the audio on thier final pass. And its my ass on the line. Anyone do this regularly? kd |

Re: Laying back to SONYHDSR Deck
you're going to need to give us more information. What frame rates are running?

Re: Laying back to SONYHDSR Deck
Just run an AES line out of the HDCAM into Pro Tools and clock from that. And yes, you'll be able to lock up at 23.98 with no problems. I do it all the time.
You should also be able to clock from the SD video reference on the sync i/o and be OK, but only if the HD & SD house references are synchronized. |

Re: Laying back to SONYHDSR Deck
HDSR for broaddcast is usually 1080i 29.97DF.
Run NTSC blackburst to your Protools, and the HDSR reference in. Do a search for HDSR layback. There are some menu options you need to be aware of, like the 4 frame offset, and using LTC, not Serial TC.

I really don't want to run an AES line to the PT rigs. (Do you mean run an AES to the SYNC I/O? I'm pretty sure I could do that. I record in from that deck all the time AES. But not to code or anything. thanks in advance. kd |

Re: Laying back to SONYHDSR Deck
As long as you are locking up OK to LTC and resolving your word clock to a reference derived from the same source as the deck (or the deck itself), you'll be fine.
So yes, you could clock pro tools via an AES return from the deck, input to either your sync i/o or 192. In this scenario, you are effectively resolving to the house tri sync... it's just that instead of a sync HD, you're using a $75k deck to derive your word clock from HD sync! ya dig? |

In the quote above do you mean a digi SYNC HD vs a digi SYNC I/O? I can get my hands on a SYNC HD. I can just swap one from another studio. Would this be a better sync box. When i physically look at them I could not tell the difference between the 2 models. And didn't see any extra info int he box. Am I wrong? kd |

As I stated above, most networks that broadcast in HD, have 10801 299.97 delivery requirements. I do shows for Bravo, NBC, and Showtime.
