Default Don't ya just hate it when...

...you go out to buy a cheap guitar to take on the road to practice on and you end up not being able to bring yourself to it and buying something half decent instead

I work away (8 days on, 6 days off fly-in, fly-out) and so now that I have my eleven rack I have little use for my Tonelab LE here at home, so figured I'd buy an axe to take up to site with the Tonelab LE to give me something to mess around with. Had every intention of picking up something like a low end Ibanez RG series or the like (maybe $400AUS max)...and ended up walking out with an ESP LTD MH-350NT ($1000AUS) in black instead I have to say though, I think I'll enjoy playing this guitar a lot more Sexy guitar.

Anyone else tend to do something similar when shopping for guitar gear?

LOL....I find that I have to just stay clear of any and all music stores, cause if I have the extra cash, then I NO LONGER HAVE EXTRA CASH when I walk outta there

The way I see it, if I'm gonna pay the money ta buy gear or another guitar, I might as well buy something that I am gonna be happy with an not regret passing on something that I really wanted!
So buying cheap guitars or FX apparently is not in my DNA

I used to spend a lot of time on the road. I bought a 399.00 (349.00 on sale) Epiphone Les Paul to take with me and they are great guitars for the money. Its not a Les Paul Historic but its a well made piece with great quality control, My only beef is that you can't walk into a Banjo Hut in Podunk, IA and buy Epihone parts so I converted all of the hardware to regular Gibson LP parts.

I just bought a 199.00 2009 Epiphone Hummingbird Artist from MF on closeout to use as a "Barn Burner" at bonfires, camping and to drag around town to open mic nights etc. Couldn't be happier with it. Solid top too. It's not as nice as my "Real" Gibson Hummingbird Artist but Hey! it was 200 bux. And if it get trashed or stolen Im not out much.

Unlike the late seventies/early eighties there ARE well made cheap guitars out there. The quality control is there you just need to cull the herd to find the best sounding wood and realize that the electronics and hardware are where they scrimp to boost the margin.

Theres good stuff out there. Cheap.

Of course the Epi'Bird now sports a set of Reissue Klusons, the LR Baggs Element system that was originally in the Gibson Hummingbird and was treated to a pro setup. The setup was cheap because it needed VERY little done to it. So I have a little more than the 199.00 in it but its still pretty cheap.

But yeah its easy to go looking for a 200.00 amp and walk out with a 400.00 or 800.00 one
