Default AD converters in Inputs 5-8?

does the digi 002 have AD converters in the inputs 5-8 besides 1-4 which has the pre's and AD converters? cause im looking to add a Sytek MPX-4A (4 channel pre but no AD converters in it) so im hoping Inputs 5 ,6 ,7 and 8 have the AD converters....lastly, if the 002 has the AD converters, hows the quality of them ??

thanks

Well, what would be the point of analog inputs if there were no AD converters after them? There'd be no way to get the signal to data for Pro Tools...

And, about the quality, they do the job, but aren't anything great. I would guess most mid grade pre's with AD coverters and standalone units would be an improvement.

true Booksix, i didnt even think of that..........

so what i be better off getting a good preamp(the Sytek) with no AD converter and use the digi 002's or buy a decent preamp(Mackie 800r) with AD converter built in

It's hard to say what would be better. Either way is a step up. It depends on budget. I'd say, determine budget, go to something like Guitar Center (any store with a good return - or "free rentals") and grab some gear (maybe two different input combinations, each adding to what your willing to spend).

Try both a great, high-end pre through the 002 converters in 5-8 and a midrange pre with midrange converters built-in and go in through ADAT. Then return the inferior combo. Oh yeah, and don't forget to let us know what you find! I'm curious. Hope this helps!

Go with the Sytek and use the 002's converters. Preamps hold their value longer than A/Ds and I think you'd get better sound than with the Mackie.

i agree. i use they sytek going into my 5-8 and it works good. then i eventually got a apogee rosetta 200 for a/d so i take the output of my sytek (2 cha. max) go into the apogee then into 002r via s/pdif
it rocks.

is it possible to get to use new a/d's , like the apogee, on inputs 1-4 too, or just 5-8.... like does it matter that the 002 has them built in already?
