OT - Keith Urban in the studio

Anybody watch the Keith Urban special? It should him in a studio doing the stuff with engineer "Dan"? He was singing into a mic, and playing guitar into 2 narrow mics at the same time. How can you isolate the singing and the guitar without much bleeding? That would save a lot of time... Is this a technique you guys use a lot?

Could be a long topic... just say ;
- final audio will end up mixed, anyway
- use polar pickup characteristics of mics to your advantage
- let artist perform, and solo the mics, listen and reposition them to your satisfaction
