It's the only single instance in Kontakt that has given me trouble. But I have had issues with Kontakt if I load up several other company's VI's in it. Sometimes I can have a lot of VI's in Kontakt and sometimes I can't. Same companies, but sometimes different issues. I can never run at 128 anymore it seems. Had hopes of always using 64, but that was a pipe dream for me. Always start at 256 and then sometimes, depending on the session, need to move to 512, but never do that when I have musicians in to do overdubs.

Are you expecting to record while running VI’s? In my experience at ANY buffer setting that’s pretty unrealistic. I do a bounce to disk, turn off everything, import that bounce and overdub to the mixed stereo track.

Why not just use Track Freeze? Or Commit?

turbo boost switcher.. free.. i paid the 10 bucks for the pro version to have it enable some automatic features and to support the dev, but the free version is 100% functional for the simple task of enabling and disabling turbo. Wonderful app.

No, I never do live overdubs with real players with VI's being active. I've used PT since 1997 when they released 24bit systems and never was able to do this back then.... or NOW. Don't think it is too much to ask of the #1 DAW to be able to get the same number of VI's in a session as Logic, Cubase etc. Supposedly PT totally rewrote their code almost a decade ago at this point. Of course I could switch DAWS, but after using for 20 years and investing a lot of money into their systems, I have no desire to start to learn a whole new DAW. I've always had great luck with almost NO crashes over the years till the last few years with PT.

This is very odd to me. I have Native-instruments KU and I use all there VI’s including Konstant and I have been able to do live overdubs with VI’s since Pro Tools 12 with very little problems. With 2018.7 It’s has been rock solid so far. The only thing I have to keep an eye on is the large orchestra samples but this is do to computer limitations. I normally keep my buffer settings at 128 or 256 but I must say with the UAD Apollo I can use the virtual outputs which allows me to track at low latency even at higher buffer settings so the buffer setting is a set and forget for me. If I don’t use the virtual outputs I can still track at 64 on small (about 30 tracks with VI’s and other plugins) sessions and 128 on larger (about 60 tracks with VI’s and other plugins) sessions. If I use the virtual outputs (with 60+ tracks with VI’s and other plugins) I normally leave the buffer setting at 256. Also don’t forget if you have too you can freeze tracks.

I've been able to record overdubs with up to 10 VIs running live. I haven't tried more that that.

So far so good. Looks like they even fixed the x-form elastic audio quirk that'd leave clips greyed out, indefinitely processing.

This is also the first time I've updated to the latest OSX, not sanctioned by Avid, and NOT run into new problems.

Native or DSP?

Just a few VIs in PT vanilla make my laptop's fan kick in, while in Reaper it's quieter. So there's still room for improvement in efficiency.
