Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
Try a search.
We're all still out of breath from the last time the topic came up. Phil

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
That's funny: I recently decided to buy a pair of monitors and I ended up hesitating between those two, although they are pretty different.
Well I decided to buy the 1030a. In my opinion they are more transparent and more flat throughout the whole range. The mackie were pretty good too but not quite as flat. A bit "boxy". Also, Where0295 will tell you about the passive radiator issue in the Mackies. Whatever your beliefs in theory are, try to listen carefully to the low end response of the Mackies and see if you like that. I know I didn't. I thought there was "too much" information, things that weren't really in my mix. Blah blah blah, everybody else will tell you to listen for yourself and to trust no one but your ears, and they're right, so go to your local pro audio retailer and have them make you compare the two monitors. This are two really good monitors anyway. |

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
I would take a CD of amix I've recorded or of a fovorite artist and play it thru both pairs or monitors. Then naturally, I'd choose the best sounding one based on the overall sound quality and like Kickin' da' speaka said, the flatness of the speaker.
I pesonally dig the Genelec. I think their the bomb and I look at the Mackie as a cheaper version of the Genelec. (If you'd like a sorta' Genelec sound but don't have the dough!) I'm around the HR's all the time because a writing partner of mine has them in his studio and we're there ALOT. So I get the chance to hear them a whole lot. They're good but don't compare to the 1030's. My say so.... Peace! Hypekeez |

Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
I'm buying some new nearfields. But for what my budget is, it's a toss up between the Mackie 824s', or the Genelec 1030As'. I'm looking for opinions between these two...

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
Well kickin, it's actually where02190, but the point is made well enough regarding the Mackie and passive radiators. A search on the DUC will certainly reveal more....
We have two monitor choices here (which every control room should have)...dare I say....Genelec 1030A's and....yes that's right, NS-10's. What do I prefer to mix on... Yep that's right, call me crazy, but I choose the NS-10's. The answer, if there is one, is find what works for you that translates well into the real world. |

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
I never realized how great the Genelecs were until I finally got to use them on a project last week. Simply amazing. The Mackie's are nice, but the Genelecs just plain out performed them through mixes and translations.

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
I have Mackies in my home studio since they are half the price of the Genelecs.
I have bought several pairs of Genelecs in my professional studios. Genelecs are finer speakers, Mackies are a better price/performance.

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
I think I can answer this in a very non-technical way.
We have two ProTools rooms here: My boss has Genelec 1030A's, and I have Mackie HR824. We all agree that the Genelec's don't just sound better, but have better stereo imaging and a much more accurate bass response. It's not that the Mackie's are bad - they're great. They get an 8/10 whereas the Genelec's get a 9.7/10 I would suggest this: if you are on a budget get the Mackie's. If you have a few extra beans get the Genelecs. These monitor debates tend to get a little nutty - I just wanted you to know what we think since we have both models that you are considering. Survey says: GENELEC Andy |

Re: Mackie 824s\' or Genelec 1030As\' ?
Actually if you want price/performance check out the Hafler TRM8s. I spent a couple of days listening to monitors at GC and Mars and the Mackies were a clear winner. Then I compared them to the Genelec and Haflers, and they weren't in the same league to me. Hafler and Genelec are much more accurate throughout. Just a better made speaker.
The Hafler and Genelec were definitely a step up from the Mackies to me, but the Hafler is about half the price of the Genelecs. www.hafler.com Allen |

For a lower priced option, has anyone had any luck with the Behringers? They seem to get some good reviews.
