Default How do u guys bring your drum samples and loops down to 0dbVU ?

Hey I was wondering how do u guys bring your samples from sample cd's down to OdbVU= -14dbfs?
Most of the time samples from samples cd's are louder then that. I'm worrying about running out of headroom while mixing. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time.

or use audiosuite gain.
also, many times, i will run the sample out into my Fatso unit(using good convertors), and bring it back in at the appropriate volume.

Yeah, dont you hate that. Why does everything need to go to 0dbfs, especially elements like samples? My solution is to use a normal cd player and take it in analog through a console and adjust the level. If you dont use a console, you could do a bounce to disk, or use the gain plugi-in before anything else.

Maybe I'm missing something but....samples are supposed to be recorded hot so that they play correctly when triggered with midi when loaded into a sampler. Only a midi velocity of 127 will play them at full volume.

I think the point here is overcompressed stereo samples. Maybe he wants to decompress them? They end up sounding like **** at the final stage.
so?
