Project mix install problem

Ok, so I installed the project mix, opened a pro tools session and everything was good, I shut down the computer and the next day try to start pro tools, and I get the dreaded 'cannot find m-audio hardware' message. I look on the forums and have made sure I have all the latest drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled everything numerous times and still no joy. When I have installed all the drivers, I open the device manager and check sound/video/game controllers and there is an entry for 'project mix firmware updater', but no entry for project mix i/o. So I use the install new hardware wizard to install the project mix and now the project mix appears in device manager, however it says (code 10) may not work properly, and it doesn't work at all. If i open the firewire device enabler the whole system now crashes! Is there a specific order in which the drivers need to be installed, or something else I may be doing wrong? PS. I'm using Vista and Pro Tools 7.4
