What is Scoring???

Can someone explain to me what scoring a movie means and how does this process takes place??????

scoring a movie, as i know of it is:

composing or writing music, and adding it to a movie in a manner so that it fits the movie. i think if you watch a movie like Nightmare Before Xmas or even Pirates of the Caribbean, you'll see that say when there is a swordfight, the clinks of the swords match precisely with say an orchestra hit, so its all about timing. its a bit wierd to explain exactly i guess. there are alot of programs out there such as Sonicfire(i think its Apple only though) and Vegas that have neat features that will allow for easy timing and composing of music for movies.

So to sum it up: Scoring is composing or writing music and timing it correctly so that it matches the feel, scene, and mood of the movie.

Oh - I was going to answer what "scoring" means. I didn't see the movie part. Movie scoring is making the soundtrack. Regular scoring is much more atisfying.
