Default Re: Is it bad that I am lusting after a D-Command...

I too have been looking at the D-Command. My question however is that I am using PT11 and PT10. Neither of which are HD, and I have no need to HD hardware, but I know the manual specifies an HD audio interface is needed. I love the idea of having this as my control surface though. Can anyone verify for sure that a D-Command cannot function with Pro Tools 10 or 11 software unless it's HD? Has anyone tried?

Does it need to see an HD Card or HD I/O? Reason for asking, would it work using a Waves Digigrid that will allow you to run PT Vanilla with HD I/O's.

D-Command doesn't need to "see" an HD card, it just needs a full HD ilok auth to unlock the Diginet protocol that it needs to communicate with PT HD software. You could run it from a laptop, BUT, you do need an HD auth.

Let's just say I have an earlier version of ProTools HD on my ILOK, but I'm wanting to use it in a recent native version of ProTools. Can it check my I look to find an HD Version, and if it sees one, will it then allow me to use the D-Command in ProTools native?

I'm lusting after a D Command too . The studio I work at all the time has installed an S6 and although it's much more powerful I prefer the ergonomics of the Icon models ( I've owned a D Control) . I miss the custom faders , the direct connection with the X Mon ( I don't like the midi routine and having to "lock" the Xmon to the console everytime you restart the computer) . I liked the angled console and the knobs as well.
The S6 is really a Euphonix console , flat, black with very small leds . I can't get used to the visual feedback ( not talking about the screens but the faders ,select and mute switches )and I'm eying a D Command 8 fader for my personal studio .

I am happy to report that I brought one home just the other day. Sold 32 Pro Control faders to get 8 D-Command ones but definitely worth it.

Cleaning up faders come next week.
