Audio glitches when playback stops
When I stop playback in my scoring template, I always get a glitch as if PT's output is making some buffer change (by contrast, other DAWs, are quite - only instruments with longer releases and reverb tails are heard).
I am guessing PT just isn't managing delay compensation or buffering as elegantly. For reference, my template has several instances of VEPro connected, and external inputs from slave PCs. Is this typical for PT with external inputs, VEPro and or large midi projects? Is there any way to at least minimize or eliminate it? |

Re: Audio glitches when playback stops
I'm pretty sure it is tied to PDC and buffer handling in PT, so system specs are mostly irrelevant, but I have added more below.
Other DAW developers have worked to buffer and handle PDC to allow for clean stops during playback, and that is where the issue lies. The average audio user will probably never see/hear it, and neither will most film post facilities. The first question is this: Has anyone else who is running large midi scoring templates (assuming there are any here) seen or heard glitches on when stopping playback in the middle of a cue? Of course it is fine when there is no audible output. I will also hear a glitch during playback when switching memory locations set for Show/Hide to show groups of tracks. Buffer setting is 256 samples; VEPro set to 2 buffers, all instances decoupled. Here are more specs: PT 11.3.2 HD Windows 8.1 Asus X99 Deluxe U3.1 64G Ram i7 5820K 3.3GHz NVidia GeForce GTX 960 Video card System drive – Crucial SSD Samples and audio drives, 3xSSDs, 1xSATA 6 drive Ethernet connected to Netgear ProSafe 8-port Gigabit Switch Audio interface: MOTU 2408mkII, latest drivers Midi Interface: MOTU 128, latest drivers Peripherals: Midi: Akai MPD232 (USB), Nektar Panorama P1 (USB) Eucon: Avid Artist Control connected via GB switch (Eucon disabled due to another bug in PT). Audio stream inputs from VEPro – 30 stereo Hardware inputs from slaves/external gear: 24 stereo inputs Hardware outputs: 8 (4 stereo) This may just be some inefficiency in handling VIs, midi, VEPro, and/or large midi projects. It isn't a problem in Nuendo or DP with identical projects and plugins, so it is definitely tied to PT specifically. Last edited by dterry; 10-27-2016 at 02:31 PM. |
