Default Pro Tools First Error 6117

Hi all...yes, I'm sort of a newbie...I've had Pro Tools 001 since 1999 and I loved it...but in upgrading my comp I lost it...It stopped at Windows XP..oh well...
Ok 'nuff background...I just reloaded PT First it on this new comp but PT first doesn't see my interface when I try to open it..and I can't get to any place to select it. (Dell Inspiron PC I5 Quad Core/Windows7 - Home Premium/service pack1/Focusrite 8i6) I get an AAE Error -6117
I've gone to the Error-6117 page and the driver download page at Avid...but all I see are drivers related to the Avid products...My focusrite is almost Avid lol
I've also pressed "N" on start up...but that doesn't help either...

Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks

Are you saying that pressing 'N' whilst Pro Tools is opening you are offered no choice of playback engine to use?

Have you checked for any compatibility issues with using the Focusrite 8i6 (perhaps on the Focusrite website) & PT First?

Make sure you Download the latest drivers from Focusrite for the 8i6 and re-install them. Install the drivers with the 8i6 switched off then shutdown the computer.

Switch the 8i6 on then boot the computer back up.

I understand there is other software (Mix Control) to install from Focusrite for this interface.

Zed, Thank you for responding. The post you sent me to was enlightening, although confusing..lol It seems like a lot of work just to use PT/First...I have other programs I can use and if I can get someone to make my Windows7 co-exist with WindowsXP, I'll put XP back on my machine, and my 001 back in the mix. (the 001 doesn't work with Windows7 or later) I miss the 001 interface, and for what I use PT for...that would work for me...but as of yet, I haven't found a tech who can do that.
Oh well, I'll keep messing around and see if the computer god's will smile on me.

And when I press "N"...i get a screen (that I can't read or access...it's just a white area) that is behind the error message box. When I close the error box PT closes...

Thanks again
