Default Rush "Limelight" rig

Hey guys,

It's been a LONG time since I messed around with creating a new rig, but I've had this one on the back-burner for a while now, and I finally got around to finishing it up.

I started this rig off using the "Toronto Tone" preset that original came loaded up on the 11R, but I ended up switching the amp completely, but keeping the effects almost all the same as what was on that original preset.
It is using the Treadplate Vintage amp, Classic 30 cab (speaker breakup @ 3.6), Condenser 67 mic ON axis. I have the Graphic EQ for extra tone shaping and a small plate reverb on it, as well as the White Boost just to kick in for solo's.

I used my old Kramer Focus 1000 with Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates humbucker pickups to try and simulate the Super Strats that Alex Lifeson was using when he recorded the original track.

EDIT: The rig is called 'Limelight', and you can download it here....http://www.elevenrackpresets.com/Details/810.html

Once I created the rig and was fairly happy with it, I recorded the song over the Guitar Hero backing track to play along with it, to see how it sounded along with the actual song. I did one pass for the rhythm guitar part, and one pass for the lead part.
On my computer and monitors, I think that it sounded pretty close. The backing track has a touch of a weird phasey kinda sound to it that I could not get rid of also (probably from being converted from the video game), so the mix was kinda weird, but check it out and see what ya think.

I wasn't going for perfection hitting the song note for note, and there are flub's here and there since I did it them in one take, so you've been warned!

Oh yeah, right after the solo from 3:12 to 3:22, that guitar is from the backing track..it's not me...

"Limelight" with Guitar Hero backing track

Hope ya like it! And of course, tweak it to suit your setup!

Peace out!
Mike

Nice! You captured the lower midrange growl that I always associate with that song. Its pretty distinctive.

Once you said it i couldent help but notice it as the thing that makes this guitar tone so unique.. :P

Great rig setup, open chords really chime like in the original.

Thanks guys!

And that's why I ended up using the Treadplate Vintage amp, to help get some of that "midrange growl" and sustain that I wasn't quite happy with on the Plexi type amps for this particular rig.
