Now that we have established that spdif should be fine at 88.2, I'm wondering if anyone can riddle me this...

Talking to Apogee tech support, they suggested looping the Rosetta 200's spdif out to the Rosetta's spdif in. In doing so, the unit locks just fine, hence, Apogee suggests the problem may be in the 002's spdif send.

I tried the same test for the 002, using the handy spdif loop test provided with the Digi Tech Support Utility, and got good spdif 'receive' signal on the 002.

I am able to send the 002's spdif to my JBL LSR4328P and (at least on the one that is working) get good signal. which makes me think the 002's spdif is not bad. (The other JBL won't receive ANY digital signal properly)

I am able to send and receive spdif to and from the Rosetta 200 via optical.

You would think that is enough, but I desire to drive my Rosetta and my JBL monitors with spdif, so I'm still trying to get the RCA spdif send from the 002 working.

Any suggestions?

PS. I upgraded to PTLE 7.3.1 cs4, I bought $150 of new Monster Digital RCA cables to eliminate that question, and an additional 2 gig of Crucial memory arrives later today. Perhaps that will help?

Thanks all, the the lively debates and let me know if anyone has any thoughts!
Peace,
David
I asked you quite a few posts back to specify your routing. Anyway, have you tried just going Rosetta to 002 via S/PDIF and using your speakers with analog inputs?

And by the way, if you haven't opened the Monster cables, don't. Send them back and get some Canare, or similar quality digital cables. I know Monster promises salvation, but can get that for free elsewhere. Like at your local church or something.

Just to clarify the question again, have you been able to duplicate the 96kHz S/PDIF send/receive from/to Rosetta/002 with the toslink; in other words, all things being equal except for the toslink/coax s/pdif connection?

Just trying to isolate the problem.

The fact that the Apogee and 002 will talk to themselves successfully via S/PDIF coax kinda says that there's an error in i/o setup, routing or in configuration, namely on the front panel of the Apogee.

Just wondering.

I can't believe you guys could go on for so long about S/PDIF and sample rates. BTW:

With 75 ohm coax you should be able to send/receive S/PDIF for 10 meters.

Thanks guys for hanging in on this one!

I seem to be having several different problems here. However, I think the spdif one has been solved with the addition of 2 gigs of memory to my computer. I hope I'm not speaking too soon! I was underpowered in the memory department by 500meg for the Music Productions Tookit's recommended memory, and the arrival of my new memory has seemed to clear that up.

But don't think you've gotten rid of me yet, I have another problem that I'll be posting soon!

Cheers, David
