Well, let's start off by apologizing for the delay in getting back to you folks. It’s been incredibly busy here at Digi, for obvious reasons, and Dave has been up to his eyeballs in preparation for our product releases at NAMM. This is not an excuse for the delays, as we should definitely have done a better job in communicating on this issue.

Having said that, the good news is that we have been working on the track pad and have some firmware for you to try that should give you significantly better performance than you are currently seeing.

We will also get Dave up here to post a bit when things calm down after the NAMM show.

A special thanks to Stan Cotey for pushing these modifications through, and to Bruce Paine our CS web guy for getting them posted tonight, all while running around with their hair on fire with many other issues.

And also a thanks to you guys for your patience.

Bob Langlie
Director of Customer Service
Digidesign

Below are links to the firmware with some readme’s;

ProControl Beta Firmware Version 1.3.5 Updates

Have been posted for download in the Support->Downloads->ProControl section:
http://www.digidesign.com/download/procontro l.html

Included in these downloads are updated personality files for use with ProControl and Edit Pack for users running Pro Tools version 5.0.1, 5.1.1, 5.1.3, or 5.2 for Macintosh, Pro Tools 5.0.1 for Windows NT, and Pro Tools 5.1.1 for Windows 2000. A version of this beta firmware is also included with Pro Tools 5.3 for Pro Tools|HD.

What Do These Files Do?

With ProControl, the updated personality file improves the performance of the track pad as well as correcting an issue with the pushbutton switches and rotary encoders. With the update installed, the track pad operates more smoothly and with greater resolution. With both ProControl and Edit Pack, some users have previously reported having problems with bouncing or "double-pressed" keys where it will seem like the control surface missed a mute key press, for example, as well as having data "jumps" on the encoders where a small movement of the knob occasionally causes a large jump in value, sometimes in the wrong direction. The update should correct both of these problems.

Downloads include:

ProControl Personality File (Pro Tools 5.0.1 or higher)

EditPack Personality File (Pro Tools 5.1.1 or higher)

ReadMe with Installation Instructions[/list]
This software will update your ProControl and/or Edit Pack firmware to version 1.3.5.

Since I started this thread 13 weeks ago, I thought I would check in and see if Dave has had a chance to think about addressing the issues with ProControl.

Stan has given us the info on the 'fix' for the trackpad, for which I am grateful. We are still using G3s, and Stan mentioned that the new trackpad firmware still might not be a fluid as it will be on a G4. Hopefully when the new G4/G5 is announced at MW/Tokyo we will upgrade our Macs and the trackpad issue will go away for us.

Still that leaves many unanswered questions for us PC owners/users. This still is the single most expensive Digidesign product out there and we would like to know what is happening. AES, DigiWorld, NAMM are all behind us, so what's up with ProControl?

Thank you.

Not to forget Mardi Gras. Certainly Dave can give us that answer he's been anxious to give us for nearly three months now, right?

Oh, Mardi Gras is Feb 12th, Dave.

Default Re: Hey Dave LeBolt

anybody download this firmware on a 9600 system? would I be insane to try?

also, does it fix the problem with shift working to modify solo buttons? I bet I'm the only one who knows about this bug... with the "latch solo buttons" preference OFF, you should be able to use shift to effectively latch the next solo button you press, and this works, with the mouse and the keyboard, or with the mouse and the ProControl's 'SHIFT' key, or with the solo matrix buttons and the shift key from the PC, but NOT with the SOLO buttons on each track of the ProControl.

long explanation. simple problem. anyone know anything?

thanks.
