Default MIC Pre control with MIDI

Question about MIDI mic pre control.
I have three rooms sharing one 8 channel Grace mic pre. I'd like to be able to switch (easily) which system is controlling the mic pre. I thinking either a analog switch (I haven't been able to find a pre made midi switch, but I'm pretty sure I could McGyver something) or something fancy from 'Midisolutions.com'. The guy from MIDI solutions has asked if there is any reason the MIDI output from all three rooms should not be connected all the time. Does anyone know if this will be a problem? Or if anyone has a smart idea..
thanks

Default Grace Control

I don't know how the Grace midi interface works, but if you can select the channel that's controlling it, you could put each ProTools system on a different channel and just select which one you want to control it. There are any number of midi routers out there. I've always had good luck with the MOTU products.

Not knowing anything about how the protocol is implemented... I wonder what would happen if you just merged all three inputs, and then multed all three outputs. Ideally, if all three PT systems were set for 'Retain Current Settings', then each PT system would be 'learning' the settings from the Mic Pre, even if someone in another room was moving the gain up or down...

That would be ideal, no?

I have 3 Grace Design 802's and I love the heck out of em'

Cheers, eh?

Yes, but I'm worried about accidental adjustments happening. If I wire them all up at once accidents would be possible. I've put a bid on ebay for a MIDI patchbay which I think will be just the right thing. Thanks for the input
