Default Midi Implementation Thread | Suggestions

Post your realistic "Midi Implementation Suggestions" in this Post.

Lets try and keep this thread open for suggestions ONLY and NOT arguments.

To those of you wanna discuss whether this topic is relevant, go to this thread: Relevance of Midi in PT

Here are my suggestions:

1) Dedicated Midi Window* which contents is drawn from the current selected Region or Regions
* One can actually open more windows if he pleases
2) Double clicking a note: Opens a list of that note's properties like - Length, Velocity, start, end, CC's etc. a la Logic's Event List
3) When the dedicated midi window is open; hitting the left + right arrow keys on the keyboard will move to the next/previous note and select and play it.
4) Optional window or integrate Menu bar display that show the midi chord being playing on the current selected track

Hello. Well there was a thread that was started in early 2006 and lasted the better part of that whole year. In it David Gibbons from Digidesign responded in February and acknowledged they were working on some stuff. It has I think around 200 responses, maybe more. The title of the thread sounds like a bug report and I am sure there is probably disagreement between some users, but it is chock full of great suggestions on MIDI. Check it out.

Please forgive this next comment, I don't want it to come off as confrontational, but I think it is not a bad thing when users disagree about things and discuss ideas amongst themselves. As long as it remains civil it can be extremely useful because it tends to weed out better ideas in the end which in turn tend to be better suggestions for Digidesign. It's also near impossible to get a large group of people to agree on anything but a healthy dialogue is always healthy. All that being said, I just wanted to give a link to that thread. Do yourselves a favor and read it it is full of great ideas.

Long MIDI thread

I can't believe it's 2008 and still No Midi Scrub!!!!

I'd just like an explanation of Why we can't

I think the biggest Feature would be the Separate MIDI Window Track resizing doesn't cut it!!!

This tread needs to span the LE and M-Power forums along with the windows Platform we're all in the same boat when it comes to Protools and MIDI!!!!

Just give me an easy way to get between various common midi data w/o having to scroll through everything. i.e. Foot Control -> Velocity. If anyone is programming hihats on BFD you know how often you need to toggle b/w these two datum when tweaking. Right now it's a huge time waster, requiring scrolling through every CC or clicking on the track view every time. Brutal.
Also, maybe let's ditch the Real-Time properties in favor of MIDI plug-ins instantiated on the MIDI track's inserts. These plugs should be full featured -- e.g. the quantize plug-in should have all the same controls/options as the destructive quantize window.
We also need a way to compress/expand velocity information rather than just adjust. BTW, these are two simple features which made Digital Performer's midi workflow easy (in the 90s!) and after years of working exclusively on PT, I STILL miss them.

There are so many MIDI related bugs. I say fix them before any else is addressed.
