Default AAF Export settings from Premier

Does anyone have any current information on settings or step by step instructions for exporting AAFs from Adobe Premier that play nice with ProTools. I will be giving it to a group of picture editors I work with. I thought I remembered seeing that someone had a document like this but couldn't find it in a forum search.

Thank you.

"Premiere settings for AAF export" this search in Google brought up a load of info.
This links to a very useful looking pdf that made sense to me as a longtime video editor (no Premiere experience though) using AAF's the Pro Tools

Andrew.

These are the settings I use that work for me to get an AAF from recent versions of Premiere into Pro Tools Ultimate 2018.4 that retains original files with metadata and file names (assuming they're present in the Premiere session).

Mixdown video: no

Breakout to Mono: yes
Render audio clip effects: no

Sample Rate: 48000

Bits per Sample: 24

Files: Separate Audio
Preserve media directory name: no

Format: Broadcast Wave

Render: Copy Complete Audio Files

It also works if you want to use Render: Trim Audio Files and specify handles.

But honestly, I still have issues with the naming of files and metadata being stripped. But I suspect that's a deeper issue with Premiere and the way certain picture editors and production sound mixers work so probably not applicable!

Render: Copy Complete Audio Files
This will make the export huge and take a very long time in most cases.
I'd go with the trim audio files option.

True, but I like to have the option to listen through an entire take to search for alternative material. Also, I don't really trust Premiere to not mess about with metadata so this seems like a good way to just give me the original files without Premiere messing about with them.

And it's not exactly like any of us are short on storage space or internet speed!

Then you need something like EdiLoad. That will conform the Production Audio files to a PT session.

You can also do it yourself with the Field Recorder Workflow built-in.

I find EdiLoad gives me cleaner sessions faster.

True, EdiLoad has been on the purchase list for a while, but I've been managing so far with a combination of AAFs and Field Recorder Workflow.

To be honest I'm doing less and less dialogue editing so it's less of an issue for me, and on the smaller projects where I edit dialogue and effects I'm lucky to get an editor who knows what an AAF is let alone an EDL!

P.S. Love your doors library, I was using it all day!

You can definitely get there this way. Just takes longer. Then there's money...
