Default Why Is This Happening

Please Click on the link. You will see my CPU is at 9%. Is Pro Tools ever gonna be efficient? I have a brand new MacBook Pro 2.5 Quad. Why is Pro Tools Choking.
Ableton and Logic never choke with this light track count. And they wonder why people trash Pro Tools in here. I have the buffer set at 256. I also have the time line fully cashed

I know it's not a great answer, but here are some ideas:

1) Is your hard drive a 5400rpm? If so, perhaps a 7200 would work better?
2) Have you run Disk Utility lately to repair permissions?
3) Are there other programs open on your computer?
4) Have you trashed your PT Prefs?

I don't have a lot of experience in your problem and should probably stay off the thread, but I thought that *perhaps* one of these things might help?

I don't have an answer, but VI's in the RTAS format just plain sucks. The amount of VI's I can run as AU's in VEP on the Mac Pro is simply jawdropping. Sure, can't compare an old G5 to a 6-core Westmere, but I had major problems with NI VI's since Komplete 2. Same thing with Arturia. Same thing with Camel Audio. RTAS and VI's just don't work properly.

To be fair, my experience with AIR VI's is good, even on the G5, so that's something.

Probably cuz they were written for VST and then ported to RTAS. Avid should get back at the rest of the world by porting their RTAS VIs to VST and then laugh when everyone else gripes about the VST performance. Right Diccer?

Don't know what to tell you, on my 2.3 ghz MBP w/8gig ram I currently have 26 guitar rig's, along with 35 other plugs in a session, and at max (8) processors + 1000 whatever sample rate, my comp is at about 60% and running pretty well. And I don't have the CPTK to ram cash. But I do have a second hard drive in it, which is 7200 rpm

Hi,

I assume you have your processors for RTAS set to an ODD amount?

This would have nothing to do with the track count, but more likely one of your VI's is spiking the CPU. I've seen the same issue with various VI's and Nexus was one of them.

I can run large sessions, pushing 80 plus tracks and 15 VI's no problem.

Some RTAS plugs just exhibit this problem and there seems to be no fix as yet.

I've just updated ozone to version 5 and its doing the same thing! and thats only using the dithering section.

Are you using the reverb on your UAD Solo card? Do you have this issue without the UAD instantiated?
