Hello and welcome to the forum.

Please take a look at the Help Us Help You thread where you will find general setup, optimization and troubleshooting tips for Pro Tools.

Not having much detail about your system, the first thing I would try is to make sure Windows is not using the Apollo as it's default sound device. You should go into Windows sound properties and disable all Apollo inputs and outputs so that Windows does not use them for sound. After doing this, reboot your PC, then run PTF and see if you get any further. You may have to open the Playback Engine and reselect the Apollo in PTF.

If that doesn't work, post a few more details about your system and we will be in a better place to help you.

Thanks,
Will

Thank you for your quick reply

I did as instructed but unsuccessful - here are more details

I am trying to install PT 1st on my computer - I have not been successful so far as I keep running into an inability to setup I/O.

Even when I select the setup drop down the I/O option is not there

I am using the UA Apollo twin for my DAW and I can hear playback of tracks that are opened from templates - But that is all

I hope this helps - I really appreciate your help

Here are a few things to check:
#1-hold the N key while opening Pro Tools. This will take you to the hardware setup page where you select the device(the Apollo) that will act as the "audio engine"
#2-Once you verify that the Apollo is selected, go to Setup>IO and hit the Default button on both the Input and Output tabs(this may not be needed, but its also worth trying).
#3-open Settings>Sound and make sure that the Default Playback Device is the on-board sound card(Realtek?). You don't need to disable the Apollo, you just need to make sure that Windows is not going to use it(so Pro Tools has complete control of your interface).
#4-Your Sandra report shows RAM from 2 different makers. While that's probably not the problem here, it is likely to hurt performance. All RAM should be exact matching sticks(same brand, same size, same part number). I would remove the Hynix(4GB) and replace with another Samsung 8GB stick.

If it still doesn’t work for you, post a screen shot of the playback engine so we can see what is available. In PTF, you select both the input and output from the Playback engine.

I just reinstalled PT 1st - still does not show I/O in setup drop down menu. Is it supposed to?
Is this just a PT 1st issue?
If I upgraded would it solve the problem?
Should I buy a new sound card?

Totally stumped

Cheers

Also - I feel like possibly this is an ASIO issue? I don't totally understand where that fits in the setup. Are the ASIO drivers included in the UA DAW? Or do they come with PT? Or should they already be there in WIN 10?

The ASIO driver is supplied by the interface vendor, which is UA in this case and you do not need any other driver for it.

Pro Tools first does not include the IO setup window. What should happen is when you bring up the Playback Engine dialog, and select the Apollo USB as the playback device, you should see dropdows for both input and output. From your screenshots, you are just seeing the output dropdown, which I guess means that PT is not seeing the inputs from the ASIO driver and I'm not sure why.

Many people have used the Apollo interfaces with PT, so it is most likely an issue on your system. Unfortunately I do not have any suggestions on what to try next.

I would contact UA support and see if they can offer any advise.

The other option would be to uninstall Pro Tools First and try the Free Trial of the full version of Pro Tools.
