aaf
I am using Pro Tools 7.3.1 cs7 w/ DV Toolkit 2 and am having issues importing AAF's from Avid editors. The AAF will either immediately quit or get all the way up to the actual opening of the PT session and quit giving an access error. Pro Tools 10 can open these AAF's without a problem. I'm guessing it has to do with offline files in the sequence. There are mixed frame/sample rates/formats in the sequences which the editors convert on aaf export. The editor told me he gets an error message saying something like "there is offline media and it will not be converted." My guess is that the older version of PT somehow sees the offline media and it's different frame/format/rate, can't get past those files and quits the import. I'm hoping maybe there is an update or work around to get these AAF's to open in PT 7 w/o upgrading to 10 which is a $$$ sink hole. Anybody else experiencing this or have any ideas?

Those are my ideas. I know v6.x did not like mixed format OMFs. I can't remember if v7 had the same dislike for mixed format OMFs or AAFs.

Re: aaf
"Then my guess is that the editor needs to find the media that is offline in his bins, remove it from his bins and his sequence, then try creating the AAF again."
If there is nothing offline in the sequence but there's audio offline in the bin, this can happen? The editor says he looked for offline media and couldn't find it. I'd tend to believe he though without looking myself who can really be sure? I just think it's weird that PT 10 has no problem opening it so I was hoping maybe there was a toolkit updater or something. The editors have such a quick turnaround that it's like pulling teeth to get them to do anything "extra". In there minds it's over the second the sequence is locked and the rest is somebody else's problem. |

Re: aaf
Are the AAF's embedded or linked?
