Default Recording Directly to Macbook Pro

I have a 13" Macbook Pro. I think it has a Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz and 2GB RAM.

I'm planning to swap out the stock HDD with either a Hitachi 500GB 7.2K HDD or a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB.

Do you think i'll be able to record/playback 18 tracks to/from the Macbook?

I'm currently using a WD Ext HDD...but I don't really like having an Ext HDD around...

I have the same macbook.

I upgraded my memory to 4 GB. That's also important for you to do. I have an internal Seagate momentus XT with 500 GB but........

You should not try to record on your internal disc. It won't work to your satisfaction. I use an OWC mercury elite-Al Pro 500 GB 7200 rpm external dedicated to ProTools.

oh and yes, I heard someone complain about using the Seagate XT for editing with Protools. First check that disc before you want try to use it as an external. It may not work. As an internal it is great (so far.... ;-)

It's workable with low track count. I did it for test purposes, but keep in mind that it is absolutely not recommended. So if you do anything serious, don't do this imho.

It'll be internal. Did you guys figure out how many tracks you could do before it started to give way?

Just don't do it. Make use of your glorious firewire port.
