Default Windows 10

I've had PTHD 11.x humming along nicely on Windows 8.1 for a while now, but I remember the struggle. Windows 10 will be out in June at the earliest. It solves some annoyances and looks like a more user friendly operating system.

The obvious question - are we in for another struggle? Anyone heard anything?

From my own quick tests of the W10 preiviews, everything should be fine. There are many things in W10 I really like. Unless you want to be a trail blazer though, I'd wait for full official support by Avid. Currently with PT I use W7. If it aint broke...

Watching their keynote on W10 was pretty interesting. The upgrade will be free to all W7 and W8 users. This is to aid in the development process by making ONE OS for developers to have to build on. That is a dream right there.
So software developers moving forward will only have one version to develop for.

I think Windows is going in the right direction with this.

Annoyances in 8 where only because of an unfamiliar GUI and desktop experience. The OS itself with the appropriate audio tweaks is very stable.

Yes I am still on W7 also.

I will give W10 6 months to be in the wild and then I will probably move forward then.

A Microsoft employee warned on GS that the 10 previews have extra bug-reporting code that will probably slow DAWs down a bit.

Wow that is a buzz kill.

Hopefully there will be a way to disable that service.

I suspect it's a lot more than just a service. We just need to be patient because we run something much more demanding than Office.

... 10 previews ...

Reading is fundamental...a "preview" is not what you will buy, it's what's delivered to journalists, third-party developers, and folks like that.

Every piece of MS software I've used in the last 10 years or so has had some type of "product improvement reporting" mechanism that can be turned on or off...I leave it off on my music computer...unless I'm seeing a major performance hit I leave it on everywhere else...

I do not work for Avid (their loss)...my only relationship with Avid is that of a customer (when I'm not too poor to buy stuff, like now)...and that hot administrative assistant...that's more of a "thing" than a "relationship" (that should keep them guessing for a while...)

Just rockin'...what more is there?

He suggested this preview is very different and more alpha than the ones they have released in the past.

It's actually quite common and a standard thing. The OS will get optimized for performance towards the end of the beta.
