digi003 interface sound issues!
I've been out the game for a while but recently landed my old job back as a sound designer where I'm working on a pretty substantial HD system. I have a more modest setup at home for my own compositions and smaller editing jobs that I can take home to finish up.
I have accrued quite a bit of audio equipment over the years but the setup I wish to use is a digi003 desk hooked up to protools 10 on a MacG5 Quad-Core with 5Gb of Ram. I've had this 003desk lying around for a while and I don't have physical copies of any drivers or anything, but I do have the 003 Factory licensed Ilok that came with it. Downloaded a trial of PT10 as the last version I used was 7.something. I'll probably have to buy ProTools again in about 20 days as I don't have any software disks either (I've moved around a lot over recent years!). The first issue I had was getting PT to recognise the interface, but after fiddling for while and finding the drivers online I have eventually got PT to accept it. The display appears to be working fine, bars/beats/timecode is all running through ok and the track names are there. As the sessions play back any automation is picked up by the faders as they should. However the problem I am having is pretty significant, as there is almost no sound coming from it. I have the monitor pot on maximum, I have the faders pushed as high as they can go, but the sound coming from my 003 is barely audible, it sounds the same level as if someone else in the room had headphones on. The headphone port works, and I've tried both the main monitor outs and outs 1&2, there's no difference between the two. The mute button has most definitely not been left on either I've been at this for 2 days now. I've tried rebooting many times. Rebooting and unplugging, pressing every button on the interface to see if I'd forgotten something, I'm exhausted! If anybody has any suggestions I would be hugely grateful, I have run out of ideas and I'm on the verge of paying some company £50 for a 1-hour phone call with no guarantee that they can help me. If I haven't given enough information or you need something explaining then please post up. I've registered just now to try and get some help so I'm new to this! |

Re: digi003 interface sound issues!
Frustrating!
I would say try to update the consoles software to the latest version (especially if your trying to use it with 10) although you shouldn't really be able to get as much as you have... if its software is out of date... I had to do this for an 003 not too long ago and its working fine now.... other than that it is puzzling... |

Re: digi003 interface sound issues!
I didn't know a G5 would run PT10.

Re: digi003 interface sound issues!
Sorry! Not a G5, it's a Mac Pro (2008).
I got the driver download through Avid's website when PT wouldn't recognise the interface, it helped to get me to the point I'm at now. I'm starting to think that the hardware has died a death while it's been sat idle for the last few years. I can't think of any reason why it would be so close to being in working order, and yet so far! I'm fairly sure it'll be out of warranty now though, so if this is the case, gutted. |

Re: digi003 interface sound issues!
Yep, be worth forcing a firmware update.
Did you reset all the I/O to default? |
