Re: Calling Bastiaan & Stone Knife
4444,
I think if you make sure the samplerate is the same (44.1 Khz for cd) the bitdepth isnt that much of an issue. As stone knife already said, there's no problem fitting 16 bits in 24 bits. Thery just add some zero's to it...thats all i think its a bit like this importing something with a scale from 0 to 5 into something with a scale from 0 to 10 would go like this: 0 = 0 1 = 1 2 = 1 3 = 2 4 = 2 5 = 3 6 = 3 7 = 4 8 = 4 9 = 5 10 = 5 listen to what you do, and if you hear something like "champagne-glasses on the speakers" there's something wrong with the samplerate....

BTW I am amazed at how good the imports from CD via Toslink are sounding. I'll cut a CD from stuff imported that way and it'll for sure take ears better'n mine to hear the difference. For those of us coming from Otari 1/4" tape machines, broadcast carts and cassettes, this stuff is just magical. |

Re: Calling Bastiaan & Stone Knife
Stone Knife,
During the aforementioned LE session, we did drop in a cd track via the 001 rca input from a cd player and it worked just fine; I just wasn't sure about the Mbox being able to do the same. By the way, as a fellow Otari nanoweber jockey (MTR-90 24 track and 1/4 inch) I agree with your assesment of transference quality. Still have a leftover stock of grease pencils and razor blades, and an appreciation of the art involved in accomplishing a skillful edit though. Ahhh memories...

Bastiian- see your e-mail
I always stunk at the razor blades and tape stuff. As soon as the first digital editors came out, I was ahead of the 20-somethings to jump on those. Didn't have to tell me twice! |
