Default HD Cards explanation.

Can someone explain to me what is the difference between these cards: HD Accel, HD Core Accel etc.? Is there a card only for TDM plugins, like UAD, which I can use with my DGI 003 simultaneously? Thank you in advance!

HD core is needed to run PT HD then u can add up to 6 Accel cards to increase your TDM power. There are the old PCI-X cards and the newer PCIe cards. I looked into this quite a lot before buying my system and according to the Avid white papers when you get a HD3 PCI-X one core and 2 accel cards there is no performance different between this and PCIe. I've not used UAD so I'm not to sure but I think their plugs run of their cards saving your PC's power. I would think that u could use this with your 003 but I'd check with UA first. If you are thinking of buying HD cards you will need an interface and some preamps unlike or 003 as its an interface and preamps in one.

Hope this has helped

Thanks, Raoul! I am curious if I can use one of these cards only to load on it TDM plugins. I don't need additional I/O.

You won't be able to use the PT cards with your current set up I'm not sure about UAD best check with them

The only way to run TDM plugins is with a system that has a bare minimum of:
  • 1 core card,
  • HD software
  • an HD interface connected to the core card

Your digi 003 will not work in any configuration that can run TDM plugins.

That being said, if you have a computer with PCI or PCIx slots, the older PCI HD core cards can be bought second hand for around $500 or so these days... so the cost difference between your 003 and HD is not as drastic as it used to be. EDIT: just saw you have a mac pro in your sig, so you would need the PCIe core card, which sells for around $1500-2000... So you would still need a few thousand to do the upgrade.
