Default Advice needed for home recording

Hey everyone,

Basically i'm a guitarist who makes demos at home and want to move to Pro Tools software/hardware as I have had good results with it before in other situations. I am a bit confused between the differences of Pro Tools le and m-powered and also the various hardware requirements (mbox). I wont be recording more than 1 track at a time so would the mbox mini be good? Also does this include Pro Tools 8 (new updated ui) and how many plugins? Seeing as i work alone mostly i like to input mini drums and synths soi would like a version to include a good set.

cheers for any advice you can give.

Hi Bohojnr, welcome.

Before you go on, read the sticky posts at the top of This forum for new infomation on PT9. This could change the way you go about things.

Yeah, what Tom said.
What's your budget, and timeframe? What computer hardware do you have?

Also, if you record acoustic guitar, you may want to check out "Setup 1" here: http://www.uaudio.com/webzine/2009/august/basics.html .

You'd be very limited with only one channel. I'm just sayin...

hey, thanks for the reply that acoustic guitar recording site is really helpful.

regarding budget im looking at something around £300 but depending on circumstances within the next few months could be higher. basically i want PT software and an audio interface

Timeframe up to Q1 2011.

Also regarding my computer hardware, im building a new pc within the space of the next few months, but it will be a powerful one.

thanks

Yeah, simplest thing would be to get a used Mbox 2 with PT8. There are lots on ebay for cheap. Make sure the serial hasn't been used for the ver 9 upgrade, though.

And a powerful PC is not necessarily a PC that is compatible with Pro Tools. When you're ready to build, please see the i7 Sticky, first page for proven parts and configuration.

Cheers,
