Confused about HDX i/o
Hi guys, I tried to find this out first before asking here, but can't get the straight dope anywhere, so here's my question: How many simultaneous physical inputs and outputs can I achieve with a single HDX card? I have a feeling it's 32 ins and 32 simultaneous outs.
If so that's a bummer, as I'm thinking of finally upgrading to a Mac setup from my old PC running PT8 with HD3 PCIx cards and 3 x Lynx 16/16 converters which are currently providing 48 ins and 48 out simultaneously (which i need), How do I work out what I'd be up for $$ wise? If I trade my HD3, (can I keep the 3 Lynx boxes?), buy a new Mac as well as the software and the HDX card, how much is that? - after the trade in? And if I'm still 16 ins and 16 outs short of what I need, what's the answer? Another HDX card? Is that too expensive, and overkill? Oh, and what's the skinny these days with the plugin compatibility? All my TDM's and RTAS, VST's etc no good? Sheesh, this is gonna cost me a fortune, just to get back to where I was (er, am...). Am I sure I wanna do this? |

Re: Confused about HDX i/o
The old HD cards had one DigiLink port per card, the new HDN/HDX cards have two ports. One DigiLink is 32 i/o.
Generally speaking, i/o count has doubled every generation. Current ones (HDN/HDX) are 64 i/o per card, previous (HD) were 32 i/o per card, blackies (MIX) were 16 i/o per card. Nobody even remembers anything pre-MIX (year 1998 or so)

Nope, it is 64 i/o as far as HDX1 card (or HDN) is concerned. But you would need interfaces that can do it, obviously something other than OMNI :)

3 x Lynx 16/16----
Two off one port and one off the other. Still room for one more set of 16 ins and outs. Keep in mind the newer digilinks are smaller-pin sets than the older version. So some adaptors/cable may be needed. (One comes with an HDn/HDx card)

Re: Confused about HDX i/o
As already said, each HDX card can support up to 64 inputs and 64 Outputs at the same time.
I have an HDX2 and I'm using a total of: 112 Outputs (80 Analog + 32 Digital) 100 Inputs (68 Analog + 32 Digital) All at the same time.

Re: Confused about HDX i/o
Thanks everyone. No longer confused! ... Well, at least not about the number of i/o, so Lynx Aurora are working ok with HDX? That's good to know. Another thing I don't know is the maximum number of i/o on a HDN system?
