profile madi card to PT recording
Hi
We do festival broadcast recording in our recording trailer equipped with a profile including 2 madi option cards. More and more bands are using their own FOH/Monitor console, able to deliver madi out only at monitor position. We connect madi stream via bnc-fiber-bnc converters, word clock out via bnc direct to our FOH venue rack. If we switch venue software to madi input, we loose the connected Protools rig, unable to record the incoming madi stream. Our protools rig is HD4 accel, connected to SSL madi HD Interface. How is it possible to record the incoming madi stream to PT? Happy for any ideas! Thanks, Patrick

Re: profile madi card to PT recording
The RME Madi Router could split the incoming madi stream from stage to your desk and SSL card respectively.

Re: profile madi card to PT recording
Thanks Brent
We would like to fast remote switch inputs between Venue Stagerack, Stage Madi Input and Virtual Soundcheck by Venue Software and/or Protools. Would Avid Madi HD do the job as well? Patrick

Re: profile madi card to PT recording
Hey Patrick,
Using some manner of Madi router you could certainly track and mix from Madi simultaneously. Both the profile and PT would be subject to the Direct out levels of the desk feeding MADI to you. Alternatively, if you took an analog split from the stage, you could feed that to your profile via BNC (keep the stage rack next to the splitter onstage), then mix broadcast live with the profile while feeding its MADI signal out to your PT. This way PT levels are subject to your desk levels, rather than that of the FOH/MON desks. This workflow also makes your own virtual soundcheck very easy. Plus, you can't always get a Madi stream from visiting bands, but you can almost always get an analog split. Not sure if this helps, might need more info on what you want to do... |

Re: profile madi card to PT recording
I would also add that in the event the RME router is not in the budget, an HDSDI video DA or in an emergency, a BNC "T" could be used to split BNC MADI signals to multiple destinations. This is common when feeding multiple recording systems such as a primary and backup record system.
The older model of what Brent suggested, the MADI Bridge, is what we use to split and quickly route signals to multiple destinations. Selecting the source on the front face of the bridge is a lot faster than switching the console between stage rack and virtual soundcheck, however you would not get the features of virtual soundcheck when routing at the bridge. |
