Default PT 12 Crashes w/ Motu BPM

Hello

I have used Motu's BPM as a plug-in on PT for almost a decade - but both were running on a pretty old system.

I recently updated everything. Currently running PT 12.4 on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.11.6. Works lovely.

I just re-installed BPM. It works as standalone software, but when I go to select it as a plug-in, PT immediately crashes. Motu says this is Avid's fault. Avid says this is Motu's fault.

I would love to get BPM back up and running as a plug-in. Anyone have any recommendations on troubleshooting this issue?

Thanks!

Best
Ian

Hi Ian,

I have the same problem and have had for a long time!
BPM has been pretty much broken ever since MOTU released the AAX version.
I actually don't think it has ever worked in any version of Pro Tools, just causing PT to instantly crash after inserting it to a track.

Also, it's been ages since MOTU last updated the plugin and who knows if they ever will again...

My solution, and probably also your best bet, is to use the Blue Cat's PatchWork Synth plugin on an instrument track to host the VST version of BPM instead of AAX.

The VST version works perfectly this way, so there is definitely something wrong with the AAX version of BPM.

A shame really, because BPM is really one of the finest VI plugins out there!

If you have a little spare money i suggest you invest in the Blue Cat's PatchWork plugin for this little workaround!

Best regards,
Swedish

You could also try BPM standalone and run MIDI to it over the IAC Bus, and connect the audio with Soundflower...

Just a thought if you wanted a free solution

UVI Workstation keeps updated.

BPM is at version 1.5.3

Please indicate your system version.

I can confirm that BPM (AAX 1.5.3) is a complete non-starter in PT...

Works fine in any other format, but forget AAX, (or Motu/UVI ever addressing the issue). I've been trying for nearly 2 years to get Motu to resolve this, & yet they still continue to market BPM as being "AAX compatible". Motu blame UVI... UVI blame Motu...

I've owned a lot of Motu hardware over the years, but I won't deal with them (ever) again...

You can get bpm to work if you load it in a protools 10 or 11 session save it then open it in a protools 12 session. It works but still won't load up in 12. Worth a try I am using it now in 12.18 aax.
