003 rack+ with pro tools HD

Thinking of getting my 003+ modded by black lion audio just wondered if I ever upgraded to pro tools HD could I use this instead of buying a 192 etc

Cheers Albee have you heard a black lion mod before are they any good and will I notice a big difference if I get it done

All the reviews seem to be mixed. However, now with Pro Tools 9 no longer requiring users to be tethered to Avid/digidesign gear, why would you spend that much money "upgrading" when you can select a third-party interface that will perform well immediately out-of-the-box?

I have never heard the BLA modded 003 Rack, but enough people I trust have assured me the difference is minimal from the stock.

What is your budget? What do you hope to gain over your current, stock 003 Rack+? What is your room like? Why is your front-end like?

You can buy the most expensive interface out there, but if you are going to put budget stuff in front and in back of it, do not expect a big difference.

I'm using my tl audio 5051 as the pre amp I was also thinking of purchasing the digital add on for this so I could connect via spdif and miss out the 003 pre amps do you think this would make more difference for value of money it's about £250

Choosing how to get the best input chain depends on how many inputs you need at any one time. I still like the way the 003 works with PT9 as compared to what I read from those using 3rd party hardware. With the 003, its very easy to bypass the analog circuitry. Plenty of good lightpipe preamps out there(as well as lightpipe converters). If all you need are 2 good input paths, maybe a SPDIF converter and any of a dozen great preamp/compressor combos?
