Mojave, mid 2010 - 12 core - Radeon RX 580 8 GB - PT Ultimate - using it all day long - rock stable

might be interested in using Catalina but don't know enough about that open core procedure

do i really need open core with my new graphic card? any users who have more info?

If you have Mojave working you should also get Catalina working. As always, best to try on test partition first

some say so, some say so - that's the whole problem

However, even if you own a Mid 2010 or Mid 2012 Mac Pro that has a Metal-capable graphics card and is running Mojave, you will not be able to upgrade it to Catalina.

Same here:
Running everything (see the signature) on Catalina now.
Only issue is installing new plugins sometimes require several relaunches of Pro Tools.

I have since changed systems as per below as of December lat year . But was running a Mid 2010 MP 6 core with a upgraded Graphics card on the last Mojave version and 2020.11

The only problem was the fans on the Graphics card were noticeably loud all the time

hi tijroy!

i keep running High Sierra because for Mac OS 10.14.x I apparently would have to change the graphics card… i tried to update to be able to run the current Logic Pro version, but the OS installer wouldn't let me.

besides that: my system does everything i want, so why bother

cheers,
frank

2009 is MP 4,1 but you mean flashes to 2010 spec (5,1) right?

Yes you are correct ! I flashed it to a 5.1, and put in a metal card. Unfortunately with my model I can not go any higher then 14.3 Mojave. Any version higher than that creates problems with the audio. But all is well . Going to stay here for as long as I can.
