Protools unable to launch - please help!
Computer model and processor speed - iMac 6.1, 2.33GHz
OS version - 10.6.8 Avid hardware model - Pro Tools MBox 2 Pro Pro Tools version - LE 8 Amount of RAM installed - 3GB The MBox is attached to the computer with a FireWire 6 pin about 6 feet long. I have been using Protools with success so this is a new problem. Protools will not launch on my main computer. I have tried it connected to my MacBook Pro and it works fine. I have checked that the fire wire works and that the port in my iMac works. I have checked "Sound" in System Preferences and the Digidesign MBox 2 Pro is there and picking up sound. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Protools. It is still not loading - it takes me to the edit mix window where I select Create Blank Session. Upon choosing this it hangs and then stops responding altogether. Please help! I need it for some voice teaching later this week! I don't know what else to try. |

Hi Tom,
Thanks for getting back to me - It was launching properly for the last two years and I have as I have been using it intensively for the last two weeks... Pro tools version 8.0.0 and the imac os 10.6.8 - I have not updated anything as I know this can cause problems . Looking at the compatibility grid it seems ok... any ideas and thanks again, Peter |

Any error message?
How are you trying to launch Pro Tools? Does the System Profiler see the Mbox as attached? Have you reviewed the Help Us Help You link at the top of the page?

Have you tried an uninstall/reinstall of Pro Tools? And perhaps a move up to 8.05?

Hi Craig,
I have tried my best to give as much detail as I can in my first post following my reading of the Help Us Help You page. - Please do see the first post I have really tried to give the detail I can - I'm not an engineer! Protools launches automatically when I switch on, it takes me to the edit mix window where I select Create Blank Session. Upon choosing this it hangs and then stops responding altogether. No error message appears. The system profiler recognises the mbox as attached - I checked in "Sound" in System Preferences. Cheers, Peter |
