Will not get past launch screen
hey guys, I downloaded pro tools first and I cannot get past the launch screen, it loads up the plug in and all that but it freezes at the Initializing the Audio Engine section during startup. then eventually says that pro tools is not responding then crashes. I'm lost. my laptop is a HP with the i5 processor 8gb RAM and 1TB memory.

Will not get past launch screen
Pretty sure we can help you out here, but we need more info. Starting with what exact windows version are you trying to use?
Unfortunately Pro Tools First is poorly designed for new users and you have to be following the install documentation. Like http://akmedia.digidesign.com/suppor...uide_85130.pdf but even that documentation is awful and does not cover basic stuff about windows audio drivers. And with all the limitations with Pro Tools First I would usually recommend people use full Pro Tools or another DAW. What audio interface/playback engine are you hoping Pro Tools will use? Did you install device drivers for it? If the laptop built in audio what exact device is it? (E.g. In Windows device manager and sound manager... post screenshots of those if you are lost). Hold down the ‘N’ key while Pro Tools is starting, when the playback engine dialog appears what exact options does it give you in the pull down selector. Re: Will not get past launch screen
I'm using Windows 10 personal, I'm using the default playback and default recording mic built into the computer, it is the Realtek Audio devices. I've tried holding down N when booting the program to no avail. I will mention that when I first downloaded the program PTF it worked great the first 5 or 6 times I launched it then it just stopped working.

Re: Will not get past launch screen
The Realtek Audio devices have no ASIO driver. ProTools requires ASIO-compatible audio hardware on Windows. That's your problem -- Pro Tools has no audio hardware it can use so it is getting stuck.
You can make the Realtek Audio usable by installing ASIO4ALL http://www.asio4all.org/ And configuring it. Then the Realtek audio can be an option (not a good option) for Pro Tools to use.

Re: Will not get past launch screen
I actually have ASIO4ALL installed and was trying to use it for my CAD AUDIO USB microphone and that's when the problem started

Re: Will not get past launch screen
It is absolutely unnecessary to use ASIO4all. The WASAPI windows driver works just fine. The problems occur when you are trying to use the audio engine for multiple things(internet videos, media player, etc) Pro tools wants exclusive use of the windows audio engine and becomes problem prone if you try to make windows sound multi-task. Also Pro Tools on windows does not like to see ANYTHING in the DVD drive, so make sure no media is mounted. Check your sound control panel settings, especially sample rate and bit depth under preferences, advanced as media player or browser may have changed settings on you.

Re: Will not get past launch screen
Seems a pretty clear cause/effect relationship.

Re: Will not get past launch screen
I have since went back to using the computers microphone and it still crashes at launch btw. I couldn't get ASIO4ALL to allow me to select the USB mic on pro tools
