Default DAE error 6006

I recently installed Pro Tools M-Powered and the M-Audio MobilePre usb audio interface on my HP laptop...I'm running Windows XP with a 99G harddrive Pentium 2 or 3 not sure which one...Everything works fine but every time i try to open Pro Tools it loads about 75% and then and error pops up saying DAE error 6006 and under it is a button that says (ok).....clicking ok closes out the program...I don't know what to do to fix this...also when i checked the digidesign website it said that error means expansion chassis are not on

Welll... you're definitely going to need to be sure which one. Pro Tools would not be compatible with either a Pentium 2 or a Pentium 3, so that would probably be your problem right there... unless you are mistaken about the specs of your computer?

You need to be sure of the specs of your computer because you need to make sure it is compatible with Pro Tools. If it isn't, then Pro Tools isn't going to work. That's why they have compatibility documents.

Also, the very next item in the support documents on the Digidesign website (after the expansion chassis solution) is this one:

DAE error -6006 on launch of Pro Tools M-Powered on Win XP machine. Pro Tools will not launch.

Here is the text from that support article:
Quote:
The error means one of the following things happened:
  • The driver failed to start (i.e. we called start but didn’t get any callbacks for five seconds). If there’s a five second delay before the error message, then this is what’s going on.
  • The driver issued an unexpected / unsupported reset request. (That shouldn’t be the case for a firewire device unless it gets hotplugged or something.)
  • The driver failed to respond to getBufferSize or getSampleRate calls. Again, not likely if the device is otherwise healthy.

Most common causes are:

Here are some tips on further debugging:
  • Confirm that the device works as expected in some other ASIO application.
  • Try a different firewire port and/or cable.
  • Select some *other* sound device as the default device in the control panel.

Wow, that's WAY different than a Pentium 2 or 3. But...

Turion Processors are also not supported/compatible for Pro Tools use. Though some have gotten them working, they are known to be problematic, hence why they are not supported.

You can still try the suggestions from the link I posted above. Most likely, the problem is that the USB bus is not supplying enough power across the bus to run the device. Plugging it in with an external power source may solve your immediate problem, but you are most likely going to have problems later trying to run Pro Tools on an unsupported processor.

Any further help that we can offer would need to be supported by detailed specifications about your system. There are instructions for posting the details about your computer system in the General Troubleshooting post in this forum, and honestly, that is probably where you should have looked first for assistance.

I found that DAE -6006 was related to running multiple interfaces at one time, as I have both Delta 1010 and AP2496 in my system. Disable either one of them, and Pro Tools launches fine. As for the firewire devices, the only help I managed to find in the support files was to try swapping Firewire cables or ports.

With firewire devices and Pro tools, DAE 6006 errors may have a lot to do with the firewire chip. A T.I. chipset is highly recommended. And it's the only one that's supported. I get this error with my 2626 using a expresscard firewire adapter I bought at Bestbuy. (All of the Dynex stuff is crap IMO)

You should post a sandra report first. Click the link in my Sig. and read through the general troubleshooting. You will find info in there about Sandra reports as well

I know all about the TI chipsets, and I've been doing lots of work in trying to identify cards for laptops, as well as desktops that will *definitely* be compatible. I'm a mod on the M-Audio forums, so I've seen these issues, they don't have to be re-explained to me.

The TI chipsets are most recommended, however there has also been success on certain VIA chipsets as well as Agere chipsets. This suggests that there may be some more variables lurking, such as manufacturer. Belkin cards seem to have a high success rate, which is evidence that while the individual chipset may have a high compatibility rate, but it could have something to do with reference design cards.

I have both a TI FW card, and an Agere, and they perform equally well, however I don't use them for Windows much anymore, as I'm expanding Delta series in my rig.

Replacing the Firewire cable is also known to solve some problems. I can't say I've used the FW cable that came with my solo anymore, and while I didn't have any issues with it, there have been users reporting some solved issues by swapping cables.
