Default What do you usually use for demo session drums ???

I am curious what the majority of you use for drums: MIDI or DRUM LOOPS ( discrete drums, DOD, EZEdrums, Drumcore)???????????????

I find that using a real drummer is just so much cheaper. Try one, you may like it too.

I use midi/loops while I write music and then when I'm ready to actually release a song it's a real guy.

I always use a real drummer if I can. If the project has no budget for a drummer (and I can't play it,) I'll use BFD, sometimes DKFH.

I use single-shot samples with everything on separate tracks.

Are loop programs like drumcore/ ezedrummer too limiting ?? IS that the reason most of you use midi or one shot samples into midi?

What about drums on demand or discrete drums? Are the packages loops or do they have lots of one shot samples for midi?

What about about REX files? Does anyone use that? I read drumcore advocates protools users to select the REX files....

Are you guys using a midi controller for constructs your beats? or simple dragging samples into a midi track and moving things with your mouse?

I use almost all of the above. It depends on the song/situation.
  • I use BFD to manually create unique drum tracks by both drawing in notes with the pencil tool and by playing notes on my MIDI controller(s).
  • I use the MIDI loops built into BFD to drag into Pro Tools and build ready made drum tracks one phrase at a time, copying, cutting and pasting as necessary.
  • I use Stereo wav loops (ACID, REX) in PT very similarly to the MIDI loops. Sometimes I use them right inside Pro Tools, dragging them into audio tracks, and sometimes with loop programs like Live or ACID rewired in. Most loop libraries also have one shots.
  • I also use loop/slice players, such as Stylus, Intakt, and Dr.Rex to play sliced loops (ACID, REX, and home sliced) using the MIDI triggers produced by those programs, and copying, cutting and pasting as necessary.
I think you need to research Discrete drums a little more. They have stereo loop libraries, but the biggest strength about it is their multi-track loops; meaning each drum is on it's own track, just as if you tracked the drums yourself.

Again, what I use all depends on the song I am working on, and what I am comfortable using at that time.

You've been asking this question for a couple of weeks now, and most people have given you the same clear answer: all these products are good products, but you need to try them and use what works for you.
In all this time you've been asking, you could have tried them out and decided for yourself what's best for you.

If I need a simple batch of loops, I usually pound them out on an M-Audio Trigger Finger using ezdrummer on a stereo instrument track(I find this faster than auditioning a hundred loops when I already know the feel I need). If I need more human qualities, I will knock out the track sitting at a Roland TD-10 kit(again driving ezdrummer) and do a quick quantize on it(as I am not a great drummer).
