Usually, Avid sets the date after which buying Pro Tools includes a free upgrade to the next version to be the same date as the announcement of the new version.

If you bought it prior to that date you wouldn't get a free upgrade and would have to buy it.

It's slightly more complicated this time because, several months before Pro Tools was announced in January 2015, Avid announced the new licensing and support plan regime it was introducing. That announcement was made in early October 2014 and was implemented a few days later.

So, the crucial question is this ....

When you bought Pro Tools 11 on 29th December 2014, did it come with a support plan? If it did, the support plans back then came with extra time for free, so instead of running out 12 months after buying, the support plan would not expire until the end of March 2016.

Some purchases of Pro Tools on the day you bought it did include the support plan, and others did not. You need to go back to your invoice/receipt and establish if you got a support plan or not.

If you did get a support plan, then you are entitled to a Pro Tools 12 upgrade for free. If not, you'll have to pay for sn upgrade.

I bought my upgrade to 11 at the end of August last year. I specifically remember that I would have gotten a free upgrade to 12 if I bought it approximately six weeks later.
Things may have changed since then, but I believe the OP is due an upgrade to 12.
