Default Pro tools 10 to pro tools 10HD

Hi!

I currently have a pro tools 10 setup using a digi003. However I just bought a new studio and the computer is outdated and running pro tools 7HD.

What is the best way for me to get PTHD10 integrated into my new system.

I will be buying a new mac pro, I have pcie cards and 192 I/o.

Thanks!

You will need to buy the software. This is a bit tricky as Avid tends to tie software to a hardware purchase. Now, you COULD buy the cheapest HD/Native package to get 11HD software, and sell off the hardware(the purchase also includes the iLok asset to run 10HD, so you can run the old HD cards until you earn enough to move to HDX). Try to get a late used Mac Pro that is NOT updated to Mavericks(or consider building a custom PC or Hackintosh). The new Mac Pro is ONLY going to come with Mavericks and that's NOT a good idea for running legacy hardware

BTW, not sure it matters to you, but the old 003 will also work with 10 or 11 HD software.

If you have HD7, you can upgrade to HD10 for $2500. However, it does not come with HD11.

In light of that price, you may want to consider getting an HD Native and Omni bundle, which comes with HD11 and HD10. You could then add your 192's to that system for extra I/O. You can trade in your 003 to get a $1000 discount.

You mentioned a new Mac Pro. If you're talking about the new redesigned "trash can" Mac Pro, that rules out using your TDM system in any way, even with HD10, because there are no Thunderbolt to PCI adapters that will work with the TDM cards in that setup.

It should be noted that Avid does not officially support the use of 192's with HD11.

While true, I know many that are using 192's with 11HD(including me) without any issue.
