Default Re: Anyone Using IMac?

I'm running an iMac 3.2 ghz i5 with 32gb ram. I have a solid state drive at 2TB and I have zero issues. I'm running Apollo Twin with UAD Console and have plenty of power. My first upgrade will likely be a DSP accelerator, but the machine itself has no issue with speed.

I'm certain the i7 will be snappier, but I don't have many problems with my rig. Happy hunting!

What kind of sessions are you running? Size? vi's used? Anything that uses computational power like the Arturia stuff will tend to take more cpu power than say a sampler like Kontakt 5 or Sampletank 3

My iMac 2011 i7 is working great. Using a owc thunderbolt 2.5" enclosure
For a Samsung evo 850 as boot drive.

Note the fans can't be hidden away in an iMac though if you plan on using the "built-in" display...

I don't understand your last statement - why would you want to hide the fans?

For the same reason you would want to turn air conditioning off?

Just recently purchased a 27", 2011, I7.
16GB RAM
256 GB SSD
1TB HD
PT 12.7.1 no issues, so far

Amazingly fast, stable and quite fun to use.

I have now retired my Mac Pro 1.1

That sounds great! How much did you pay for it?

Agreed but the way jchan phrased it makes no sense at all. There's no need to get cute with phrasing - it only makes for confusion because not everyone will understand what is being said and I doubt I'm not the only one.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
My issue has been the iMac gets very hot during
Longer sessions, to the degree the connector to the LCD
slowly melted and caused a flickering and darker left part of the
display. I got it fixed but use mac fans app since then to keep it cool
and the fans can be disturbing when mixing.
I think this might me a problem that has been taken care of
in the later (after 2011) iMac line up.

That sounds ugly to say the least. My late 2012 quad core i7 27 inch does get a bit warm after like 8 hours but nowheres near as hot as yours. My fans are quiet enough I can record with an open mic like 3 feet away with no issue. Remember not to get anything close that would impede the airflow from the ram slots in the bottom (that's the air intake) or the slot across the top rear (which is the airflow exit).
