Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
Running into a situation wherein my undo history becomes littered with "Change Control Value: Automation Warning" entries. This in turn eats up most of my available undo memory, or at the least, causes me to have to Cmd+Z multiple time to achieve the desired undo.
This is new behavior for me since the PT10 upgrade. Any idea what could be causing this? -S 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad Core 16GB RAM Mac OS X 10.7.3 PT 10.1.1 |

Re: Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
Steve!
Go into your preferences and under Mixing uncheck where it says "Include Control Changes in Undo Queue". That one got me as well. |

Re: Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
I've been noticing this as well, but on PT HD 9. Are you using Waves WLM? I believe I started noticing this after switching from DMM v2 to WLM. I much prefer WLM for system stability, but this undo queue thing is bugging me.
Also, I believe unchecking "Include Control Changes in Undo Queue" will remove the option to undo changes to faders, pans, and plugin controls, which is a helpful feature IMHO.

Bingo!
Both of you are correct. The pref was indeed checked, and it seems this coincided more with WLM usage than PT10 usage. Thanks guys! S |

And Scott, I'll have to decide if that stuff is affected as you say, whether or not the tradeoff is acceptable... ya know, until it's fixed.

Re: Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
One other thing that I thought I was noticing, is that this only happens when the WLM plugin window is open. I can't confirm this (I am not near that system today) but I seem to remember that when I noticed the undo queue being filled I had the WLM on screen. I would then close it and don't remember running into that again that day. I could very well be imagining this, but it's worth checking out.

Re: Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
Unchecking that value seems to only affects undo-ing of plugin values. I can live without that more so than losing undos' general effectiveness. Once that was unchecked, I was able to resume a near normal working enviroment.
Working on spots, I kind of want to constantly see what the WLM is doing, so hiding it isn't really a solid option for me. Thanks again for the help. S |

Why not try Nugen visLM and have no nasty waves issues at all?

Re: Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
I've tried the Nugen, Mike, and quite liked it. Fact is, we have the Waves Mercury bundles on all our systems, so the WLM is certainly a more cost effective solution for us. Nasty as it is!
At least they're dumping ilok. That should help mitigate some of the pain. Thanks, -Steve |

Re: Undo Issue - "Change Control Value: Automation Warning"
I, too, have experienced this problem when using the WLM.
I have a finesse here that should make everyone happy: If you are like me, when I open a plug in, I have my preference set to enable all parameters. One of those parameters is for the WLM to show a warning if your levels go over or under. When it spits out a warning, it write automation. Open the automation enable dialog, the one where you can enable or disable automation, and un-enable Automation Warnings. This will stop all of those control changes clogging up your undo list AND you still get to under plug in automation changes. I thought that I had a problem with writing automation, not that one of my plug ins was writing control changes about warning automation. Perplexed me for 3 days. Jim |
