PT11 Video Engine Issues

Since updating to PT 11 I've run into some serious issues with the new video engine. I'm hoping the forum can help, because my troubleshooting has been fruitless.

I never had problems with playback of video in a PT session until updating to 11. Issues include:
- Frequent video freezing during playback.
- Extremely long delay of initiating playback after hitting play (upwards of 10 seconds)
- Frequent appearance of "Waiting for video operation to complete" progress bar, which takes about 10 seconds to complete.
- If video engine is turned off, when turned on, progress bar takes, again, upwards of 10 seconds to finally complete.

Needless to say this makes it virtually impossible to work with video in Pro Tools (while retaining any sanity). All videos are QT videos of various compressions, all of which play back fine in any other program, except Pro Tools. I've tried various levels of playback quality, disabling GPU and changing play start latency in "operation" (currently set to Enable GPU and Play latency at 1-shortest). Graphics drivers are up to date. I've tried opening old sessions that played back just fine pre-PT11...I encounter the same issues now. This happens in sessions of any size..even empty ones with only the video.

Which version of PT11?

It's well known that serious video issues were introduced with PT11. They've been working to fix them and claim to have tackled many. I don't use video in 11 and couldn't confirm but reports on the forum suggest that they're making progress.

Other issues I forgot to mention include:

- Sometimes when I stop playback, the video keeps going, and the session basically locks up until I disable and re-enable the video engine.
- Sometimes when I stop playback the session hangs for about 5 seconds, then I get an error saying "There was a problem stopping Pro Tools" (an issue only experienced in sessions with video).

No advice at all? As a film composer who has to write to picture, this is a HUGE issue.

Hmmm...it appears that the issue has NOT been resolved in 11.2, but everything I've read on here suggests that 11.2 is a bad update anyway. I'm using 11.1.3, and am less than thrilled with the video performance as well. It's MUCH better on 10.

The video issues are definitely not resolved. They did have things working pretty well in the later versions of PT10.

Video problems not resolved here but 11.2 "feels" slightly better…oh well.

Getting this fairly regularly using 11.3 HD in Windows 8.1, Native with Omni (latest driver), BM Studio 4K (latest driver). Anybody else still experiencing this? Will these video issues in 11 ever get solved?

There's another problem when you go back to 10 after experiencing video engine issues in 11 - that is, if you're running Yosemite. PT 10 menus don't show up properly, it's a mess, and when you're in the middle of a recording session, that's another thing you have to deal with. Not cool at all.

My problems with the video engine started 2 days ago (unable to launch), and so far there is absolutely no real solution. So to sum it up, the only version of Pro Tools 100% compatible with 10.10 has a major bug that make it impossible to work with. I work in film music, so every now and then I have to load a video in Pro Tools...
