Default QuickTime/MachineControl Workflow Request for v7.2

Digidesign,

I, and I believe the rest of the post production community, would be grateful if you would consider implementing the following for PT HD v7.1.

•I would like to be able to scrub a QuickTime movie, or a 9pin device, beyond the point at which playback has been stopped while using the selector tool.

Here is the premise for this workflow request: If you are working with a QuickTime movie or a 9pin device, and you drag the insertion point to the right of where you stopped playback, the picture does not follow your movements. If you drag the insertion point to the left of where you stopped playback, the picture does folow your movements. The roots in the desire to scrub against picture beyond where playback has stopped, for me, go back to when I used to use the MicroLynx. If I stopped playback, I could reach for its jog/shuttle wheel and jog/shuttle in either direction and the picture would follow. It slows my workflow down when I have to playback a QuickTime movie or a 9pin device beyond the area in the timeline where I want to scrub, just so that I can scrub in that area. It would be a boost to my workflow if I could just press play, get close, and then scrub in either direction and have the picture follow my scrubbing in either direction.

If anyone else wants this, please reply with "me too", and nothing else.

Thanks for reading!

Hey Jonathan.. great idea, nice catch (me too!).

One thing though, maybe I'm missing something. I understand in your argument how the scrub from insert point is not working, but there are definitely work arounds (again, unless I'm missing something really obvious, I apologize). Why can't you just put the cursor on a track on the timeline and use + or - to scrub (set the nudge value to 1 second or greater)? Or use the Keypad shuttle features... Or on a control surface, the scrub/shuttle wheel works just fine.

Alas, the Command|8 does not have a scrub/shuttle wheel. I might work with your workarounds, but the other engineers I work with would not. They just want it to work as described in the first post.
