What version pro tools are you running? I experienced the same thing with elastique-pro in 2024.3, very phasey sounding.

Is it possible there are other settings within the session/preferences that are causing elastic audio to not work properly? I had one song pre-mix with very little if any plugins/automation and elastic audio worked flawlessly, but on a session in post-mix stage elastic audio failed
For changing the tempo of a song, I use X-Form for everything except drums(gotta be very careful on multi-mic'd instruments). Often, if I have an acoustic guitar tracked with multiple mics, I will choose the best sounding single track and skip(Hide and make inactive) the other. Percussion stuff usually gets the Rhythmic option. Drums get Beat Detective(as a group) or I edit manually. There really is no single solution that always works, so be flexible and experiment. And look into a demo of Serato Pitch 'n TIme

Gotcha and I've already used my free trial of serato pitch n' time, though I did not try it's TCE feature only the pitch shifting part which worked very well. Is the plugin worth the $800 in your experience, especially with the newer zplane elastique included in the current pro tools?

I agree that per-track re-timing is the way to go. And for percussion tracks, I'd use Beat Detective 100%. Just make sure you have any tracks that were recorded together grouped :)
