Tested again today on clean 10.9.2 install
Nothing but 11.1.2 and ilok. No AIR no 3rd party
Bug happens everyday for me - see it at ~2:00 into video
96kHz, 64buffer

It would be great if a few of you could just try this simple test and report back if it does or doesn't happen to you. Sometimes it takes 4 or five cycles but usually I can get it on the second pass.

just a wild guess .Have you ever checked in your task manager to see if your cores are parked?

Mac not PC - no core parking allowed

Over and over - day after day - not so bad that it stops me but SO annoying. Sometimes it doesn't happen - sometimes it does - but every time I put a full day in I can count on seeing it at least once...

Here is a vocal practice session I use - One Mini Grand one track - some midi...

Between it and the OS 40% of my CPU is being used - Pro tools meters close to zero....

I am the only one I guess...

I just bought a new system and upgraded to ProTools11 with all my plug ins $$$$.

I have the same problem.

Allthought it seems if I don't use my Thunderbolt display the problem doesn't happen.

Have to do some more testing...
Pfff what a waste of money

So I just tried a fresh installation of OSX Mavericks with the new Pro Tools 11.1.3 and I'm sad to say that the software breaking problem is there just like on day 1.

I was able to reproduce the problem within 2 minutes using the technique demonstrated by propower.

I created a 48Khz/24bit session with 8 stereo tracks, recorded 1 minute of silence and pressed cmd+z to undo, then started to record again. On the second pass the CPU usage jumped to what you can see in the screenshot.

Just for refrence, here are my specs. As said before the installation was absolutely clean, no drivers nor plugins were installed.
  • Mid-2012 Macbook Pro 2.5Ghz i5
  • OSX 10.9.2
  • 4GB RAM
  • Happens with no peripherals attached, ilok plugged straight into the computer.
  • Pro tools running off the internal HDD

EDIT: Looks like the forum downscaled my image so I uploaded it to imgur instead. Click for full size.

Yep - I reproduced this result with 11.1.3/10.9.2 yesterday as well. I keep a boot configuration special for these with nothing but OSX and PT11.x. No 3rd party anything.

It amazes me that this is reported consistently with two completely different configs... (and I had it on a 2012 mac mini before the imac!)

imac/MBP
PT11HD / PT11
4G ram/ 16G ram
i5 / i7
All versions of PT11
OSX10.8 - 10.9.2
External recording drive / Internal recording drive
48k / 96k
AVID interface / 3rd party

Yet almost no else has this issue - Been tested with HDN and old MP - didn't happen...

I read a post about a meter display issue --- and there was AVID customer service (within 24 hours) saying they followed the steps shown and it works just like it did before...

SO after 50 posts and 6 months including Videos showing exactly how I produce this behavior does my respectful - factual thread - never get one word from AVID??????

I also noted many times how irate and non-sensical ravings by people who usually have no clue how to configure a system get response from AVID... my polite - factual - with full system details and a 3 videos showing you how to do it... nothing...

just saying

i have seen something similar on my Mac Pro … using contact … and minimal recording … i see my system running great at about 20-30% then out of nowhere it will jump to 90-100% and spike … i know my computer is old and off the Avid compatibility list so i assume my issues are mine … but it seems like i am not alone ..
