Video Engine in PT 11.1

Although some AVE improvements have been achieved in 11.1, I still don't feel it's reliable as 10 was.
Some of the issues I've had are:

• - the playback suddenly won't start (either by spacebar or transport button) and then starts right away when setting the video offline or pressing the fast forward button...
• - An error message pops up sometimes, saying "The Video Engine could not start playback because the clock is not locked. If it persists, try de-activating or removing Native plugins". I just have to press OK for it to work again.
• - The whole windows focus seems buggy (not the the keyboard focus or the clip list focus, the actual windows behavior), for example dialog windows sometimes open below the video and can't be brought to front, one has to drag them away to see them. Or sometimes the menus disappear if the mouse gets a little off them and sometimes not...
• - The tracks menu (above the track list) triggers an access violation error when session contains a video track (it works fine if I delete the video track).

I have to mention that I have totally uninstalled 11.0.2 and deleted databases before installing 11.1 and that the issues mentioned above occur in quite light sessions with DnxHD 36 video.

Have you updated to 11.1.1 to see if the problems still exist ?
(I am thinking of updating from 11.0.2 to 11.1.1, but I am reluctant, if I read from problems like that.)

I just installed 11.1.1 and i seems to have fixed some codec reliability issues, and scrubbing is slightly improved (still worse than PT10 through).
But when I drag a clip on the timeline the vision tracking is still awful!
I think this is only a Black Magic issue, but I wish they would fix it.
I can't believe how long I've had ver11 and not been able to use it.

I feel and share your pain. I have the intensity pro. Worked fine in 11.0 same kind of stuff as OP in 11.1 and 11.1.1. Several calls to support both blackmagic and avid. Pulled the card and voila, no more problem. Very frustrating.

Unfortunately Avid support is not very helpful in my case either.
I had pretty long email correspondence and even supplied to Avid problematic files and sessions….but the problem still persists.
From my point of view it's far away from the solution even though they fixed black screen issues in 11.1.
There still a huge delay when pressing playback.
There is still an issue when randomly PT doesn't start playing after hitting play.
I still have no success for BM SDI to feed our Christie cinema projector.
With PT 10.3.8 it works perfect.

All I've been told was that I need to understand that the new video engine is different from the PT10 one.
And the sync is better now.
Congratulation on that, but what about all the things that are the show stopper (see above)?

I bought the PTHD11 upgrade because I'm an Avid fanboy, and I want them to have the resources to make PT11 perfect, but I can't work with it yet, and don't have any plans to move up from 10.3.x for the next 8 months.

wouldnt touch 11 with a 10 foot pole...too much work booked and in progress....maybe in a year or so when they finally make it work properly...

I mixed 2 shows last week with pt 11.1. Pit went really well and I had no major issues.

So are you getting good video results when dragging sounds on the timeline? Mine is spitting out about 3 frames/second. Scrubbing is about 10fps (This is out of the BM HDMI out).

Mine too HDMI out Decklink Studio. Prores and DNxHD. PT11.1 HDX 1

3 frames ish a sec jumping video when dragging clips and takes ages to catch up to where you are.
Useless for any serious fast editing.

PT10 is so much snappier.

I can't believe Media composer editors put up with this, isn't it the same engine?
