PT drops out of "on-line" record
I am running a PT cubed, G4 500mhz, all the regular stuff etc...
I am trying to do a very long (120 min) 48 track record "on-line" chasing TC, to 2-80 gig DigiFire drives. Space does not seem to be a problem, however, the dman things falls off line consistantly after an hour. Anyone have any suggestions? Computer has tons of ram, and drives are properly allocated with 24 tracks to one drive each. Thanks for any and all help! Bruce |

Re: PT drops out of "on-line" record
It could be that the tapes you are chasing have time code drop outs in them. If it drops out at the same place everytime this is usually what the problem is.

Re: PT drops out of "on-line" record
If you're chasing analog tape, make sure that the track next to the one with the TC doesn't have any hi-mid frequency content...like square wave sounding. That'll cause drop-outs all the time. Also, how hot did you stripe? -10dBVu?

Re: PT drops out of "on-line" record
This is a widely know bug in Pro tools. It will not chase in record for an extended length of time. Letterman records their hour long shows to PT, and it always drops out. SNL has the same problem. Call Dave LeBolt at Digi and complain about it.
Meanwhile, run the system in jam sync (in the session setup window). The PT transport won't stop when you stop the master, but at least it doesn't drop out of sync. |

uno...
thanks for the brain stimulator...jam sync should work fine for this situation. I had been using a TC gen out of my DA 98 for the lock test. Thanks again! Bruce |

Re: PT drops out of "on-line" record
postboy,
What version of Pro Tools are you running? If you have 5.1.3, download the 5.1.3cs8 version. I believe there is a fix for the problem you described. Read the info for all the "cs" upgrades and fixes, I believe your exact problem is addressed by one of these.

And make sure you're not crossing the 24hour mark either.

I can't say thanks loud enough! I am going to get the patch and as far as crosiing the 24 hour is concerned, I won't be crossing that, although it's gonna be close!

Re: PT drops out of "on-line" record
Make sure that the preference for limiting record time hasn't been selected as in 60 minutes versus all available.
