Most likely "original version" (full mix) and "international version" (m&e). Looks like an italian or french distributor to me, they sometimes use VO/VI.

Re: feature film sound deliveries - unknown shortcuts
probably french speaking producer?
VO = Version Originale = Original mix VI = Version Internationale = M&E or Mix minus Narration depending on program i/s = images par seconde = frames per second Greetings, Thierry

They would have to buy a UAD-2 quad card and a couple of thousands of dollars worth of UAD plugins, as well as a couple of other plugins I use that aren't standard. It would be cheaper for them to hire me again. |

Re: feature film sound deliveries - unknown shortcuts
This spec seems more like they want a PT session with the 5.1 stems and LtRt locked up together, rather than the entire PT session (which, as Mark points out, would be only moderately useful to them).

In fact, nobody's ever asked me for the original mix session for any of the films I've done....at least nobody I'd consider a major player. |

Stems, sure. Raw elements sure. Import copy Final mix session sans plugins, routing and automation. The mix session belongs to the studio technically. The raw elements and stems belong to the clients. Though I know many a studio who has lost that argument. I use the UAD2 for some plugins. I have a wide array of plugins I use outside of the standard as well as custom altiverbs that wouldn't go with the session either. Its always cheaper to go back to the original to do a fix or remix. Clients think its cheaper to go where it is cheaper until they realize the sessions don't work, sound the same and ultimately spend more money before they come back. One of my most favorite phone calls ever is a client who decided to do it on the cheap and called the facility I was at, at the time, asking for someone to come to the other facility and help them figure out why the mix was different and if there were plugins that studio didn't have, if they could borrow them for the next few days. Use your imagination on what that answer was. |
