Default Screen resolution question ?

I See quite a few screen shots/videos of people’s pro tools looking like this.

Mine always has no room underneath the mixer sliders if all sends and inserts are in view, and pro tools takes up the whole screen

Is there a setting to change this or is it all to do with screen resolution, my screen at the mo is 42” set to 1080p

It's this. 1080p is low resolution for Pro Tools. Obviously you are using a TV and not a monitor but 1080 pixels up/down isn't enough to view the mixer like you see in the photo (and that isn't even showing all inserts/sends.)

To see everything in the mixer window, you'd need a 4K screen (2160 pixels up/down).

The one in the picture appears to be WQHD (2560 x 1440)

Hoping someone with knowledge can advise here

My MacBookPro I just brought 2012 17 inch screen has a high resolution of 1920x1200 with a AMD Radeon 6770m the screen is very clear and snappy. My Mac Pro has NVIDIA GT 120 and my screen has a resolution of 1920x1080

Could any one advise should I upgrade my screen or graphics card in the Mac Pro or both to get it as clear and snappy as my Mac book pro ??

Raoul, that GT120 is quite a basic card. You would certainly benefit from an upgrade. I run three 1920 x 1080 monitors driven by a GTX 650 in my PC. Do be aware that this card takes up two slots and requires its own power connection to the computer power supply. Also, have a look at something like a GTX 750.

Your MacPro is a 4,1 isn't it? Try getting your hands on either the Radeon HD 4870 which was the upgrade card for that Mac model. I don't know for sure if the cards for the 5,1 cheesegrater (Radeon HD 5770 or 5870) will work in your machine. Although if the monitor is height challenged a new card might not get you what you want. The Samsung 1920x1200 27" monitor paired with the radeon HD5770 that I have with my 2012 Mac Pro won't do a display like you show in your post. It's the one thing I miss from my old 27" iMac's screen. Interesting thing was when I had both machines up & running in VEPro I measured the actual active part of each screen and they're the same - it's just that the iMac had 2560x1440 resolution.

I assumed since you had a GT120 video card it was a 4,1 as that was the stock card in a 4,1. The available cards for a 3,1 were Radeon HD2600XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT and NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600. Wish I could have been more help.

Could this card be contributing to some of my other issues as this was not a standard card

It's possible. I've read online that sometimes video cards other than what would come on a Mac can have issues working properly on Macs. As I understand it it's something to do with the firmware on the card. I'm thinking out loud that part of the issue might be the different generations of Macs - your 3,1 and a 4,1 which had the GT120 as a standard card.
