Default Why does 003 Rack light up and make snapping noises?

My 003 rack makes noises when I turn it on, it snaps 4 times, the first and third time all the lights flash, then the fourth snapping sound turns the mute button on. It has done this ever since I took it out of the box and first used it. I was wondering if that means it is not working properly.

Did you have everything OFF when you connected the firewire cable? Hot-swapping can damage the unit.
Have you installed Pro Tools, and if so does it recognize the 003?

That is normal. It is setting itself to be used. Mines does the same thing. No errors or problems whatsoever.

Yes, I've always turned on the 003 rack first, then my keyboard, then the computer. I don't think it is normal because the mute button is always on when its finished making crazy noises.

My 002Rack does the same thing...I've always assumed it's some sort of quick hardware diagnostic test. When it's finished the mute is always on by default.

Nope. It's completely normal. I have the 002R and it does the same thing. It's just the normal power-up sequence.

My 002R has always done this. I think it may have something to do with it turning on different parts of the unit in sequence (not sure). The automatic mute is probably to protect your speakers from any thumps or bursts from the electronics powering on.
