Power and speaker question
I usually run the 11r through the PA but I also have a Rocktron Velocity 300 and a 2x12 cab. I've been running the 2x12/V30's with 100 watt tubes heads for years, am I safe to run the 11r/Velocity setup through the same cab or will the 300 watts be too much for the two 60 watt V30's?

Seriously though, you can "safely" pump 120 watts into two V30's. As you get close to that it's gonna be soooo loud anyway, I seriously doubt you'd risk blowing the speakers before your ears start to bleed! There is definitely the possibility of damaging them though so keep a close eye on the output of the Velocity. Make sure it's always under 50% before powering it on and double check after short breaks from playing. Accidentally bumping the volume control could lead to very bad things. I'm not sure what kind of knobs are on the Velocity but here's an idea. Replace the volume control with a "chicken head" type of knob. Use some good double sided tape and a small plastic block on the faceplate to keep the knob from being turned up past a certain point. |
